Site Description Wreck of the Regina Aka Sugar Barge

The Wreck of the Regina, also known as the Sugar Barge or Molasses Barge, is a popular shore diving and snorkeling site located just off of Bradenton Beach, Florida. The SS Regina was a 247-foot long barge that was carrying 350,000 gallons of molasses from Cuba to New Orleans when it sank in a storm in 1940. The wreck is now broken up and scattered across the seafloor, with the largest pieces located in about 15-20 feet of water. The Wreck of the Regina is home to a variety of marine life, including fish, shrimp, crabs, lobsters, and sea turtles. The wreck also provides a habitat for artificial coral reefs, which attract even more marine life.
