The Taiyong crane barge, previously deemed irreparable due to damage, was discovered by a Jordanian Technical Diving Team in 2004. Believed to have sunk between 1997-1999, it rests on its starboard side near the Japanese Gardens dive site in Aqaba. Unlike other dive sites in the area, Taiyong is not buoyed and reaches a depth of 58m at its lowest point, making it an excellent technical dive site.
From the Japanese Gardens, divers can follow the reef to the bow of the Taiyong, where they will be directed to the stern and the impressive crane covered in soft corals and unique formations.
The deepest point of the crane is at 58 m, ideal for breathtaking photographs. Continuing the dive towards the stern, divers will encounter the wheelhouse and exciting swim-through, offering an up-close view of the crane machinery and gears.
The barge is adorned with colorful coral growth from bow to stern, having been submerged for more than 30 years. During the Deco stage of the dive, there is always something to captivate divers’ attention and camera lenses.
Remarkably, much of the Taiyong’s structure and fittings remain well-preserved. For an alternative dive plan, divers can opt to follow a different section of the reef during Deco and conclude their dive at the famous Cedar Pride in Aqaba, creating a truly magnificent two-in-one wreck dive experience
