Kiwi Reef, a remarkable dive site in Aqaba, owes its name to Bevan Airey, a diver from New Zealand who discovered it during an exploratory dive with Rod. The site primarily features dense sea-grass beds along a steep slope, while at a depth of 30 meters, small coral pinnacles scatter across the bottom, forming clusters of self-contained ecosystems. The pinnacles are home to fascinating marine creatures such as Moray Eels and Lionfish, making it a popular spot for underwater photography.
The reef starts with a lush grassy area and gradually slopes down to several coral pinnacles, which showcase a stunning array of marine life. Nudibranchs are a common sight here, and divers should keep an eye out for octopuses, turtles, and stingrays.
The diverse range of species found in Kiwi Reef includes reef fishes such as triggerfish and moray eels, while lionfish, often seen outside the pinnacles at night, are particularly abundant. With a bit of luck, divers may even encounter seahorses, adding to the magic of this enchanting dive site.
