Coral Garden / Puffer Rock surprises divers with its allure for underwater photography. Despite the relatively flat topography and medium-strong current,
While the visibility may not always be crystal-clear like other parts of Aqaba, the branching hard corals resembling a magical fantasy forest enhance the site’s charm. Moray eels thrive here, abundant and sizable, while each coral head hosts its own unique ecosystem. Frog fish dominate as small predators, camouflaging among lettuce and fire corals, and keen-eyed divers may spot a crocodile-fish or torpedo ray prowling the sandy bottom. Schools of reef fish abound, though it’s wise to seek shelter near coral heads from patrolling predators like barracuda.
As we dive south with the current in Coral Garden / Puffer Rock, we’ll marvel at the variety of Aqaba’s coral. However, caution is advised due to the reef’s size, as we may surface quite far from our planned exit point, usually a dive boat. If diving from shore, booking with The Royal Diving Club grants access to facilities and requires a long swim out from their jetty.
Coral Garden is an excellent spot for diving or Nitrox (EANx) training to extend bottom time. The entire reef is impressive, with unique coral patches, with the best corals found at slightly deeper depths, offering plenty to explore
