Abu Diab dive site is situated 4 kilometers north of the Ras Banas peninsula . It falls within the Fury Shoal Reef System.
Abu Diab is a large reef formation, measuring 250 meters long. It rises from a depth of 20 meters, providing enough shelter for mooring boats even overnight. The reef’s large size makes it impossible to explore in a single dive, especially with currents. However, the most fascinating parts are the caves in the south and the coral garden on the western wall. The conditions near the southwest are suitable for night diving as well.
Marine Life: The reef formations at Abu Diab provide a habitat for a wide variety of marine species. You can expect to see schools of colorful fish, crustaceans, and mollusks darting in and out of the coral formations. Larger predators like barracuda and tuna also roam the area. The highlight, however, are the vibrant coral formations themselves, boasting some of the healthiest and most diverse coral reefs in the Red Sea.
Currents: Be aware of the frequent strong currents in the area. These currents can make navigating the reef challenging and require divers to be experienced.
Depth: The depth of the dive site varies. The reef itself starts at 20 meters, but the seabed descends gently to the south and drops off to a depth of 30 meters and beyond to the north.
Night Diving: Night diving is possible near the southwestern tip, especially if your boat is moored nearby. However, it’s recommended to explore the caves during the day before attempting a night dive.
Overall, Abu Diab is a stunning dive site that offers a unique underwater experience for experienced divers. With its vibrant coral reefs, diverse marine life, and challenging currents, it’s a true gem of the Red Sea
