HMS Maori, a British destroyer from 1937, lies beneath Fort St. Elmo in Malta. It sank in 1942 after a German air raid, settling at a depth of 15 meters in St. Elmo’s Bay.
This historical dive site, suitable for beginners, sits on a sandy bottom with a max depth of 16 meters. The 42-meter-long wreck, missing its bows and stern, provides a unique diving experience. HMS Maori, raised in 1945 and scuttled near Valletta, offers a shallow wreck dive rich in culture and history.
The wreck, damaged by a storm in 2019, is now non-penetrable for divers.
